Beware Wire Transfer Work-from-Home Scams

HEA-Employment.com receives a few wire-transfer scams in our job listings every week. I want to reiterate to everyone that is looking for a job to avoid these wire transfer schemes. No employer should require personal bank information for whatever reason. If they need to pay you, they can pay via PayPal, Check or Money Order.

Job Requiring Fees to Get Started

We understand the need to find a job and make money for many job seekers. The desperation to find employment may cause many to choose jobs without checking with the BBB first. Unscrupulous people try to take advantage of honest people that cause them to lose hundreds or thousands of dollars. HEA-Employment.com provides legitimate work at home opportunities that do not require any fees. Although some positions may require people to attain software and equipment required to perform the job, no job can or should require any fees to get started.

Wire-Transfer Scams

One of the more popular scams out there today are wire transfer schemes where a person requests your bank account details to transfer funds to your account and then to other accounts while  giving you a percentage. It seems legitimate until you realize the account is used to deposit and send bogus checks that you are now on the hook for and have to pay back in most cases. For example you are told to deposit a check for $1,000 and keep $250 for yourself and when the bank realizes the check is fake, you now have to pay the money back. When you send a check, they will wash the check and use it to pay others in your name and with your account.

How to Stay Safe

We always recommend getting a PayPal account or requesting the payment via cashier’s check or via Western Union. Never accept a job that requires fees. Most employers may ask you upfront to get certain software, equipment or skills before beginning a job, but they will never require an upfront fee to start working. Also never give out your social security number until you have worked for them for at least 6 months. Remember to only use tamper resistant and secure checks. Be very cautious and pay careful attention to everything. Lastly, always check with the BBB or Consumer Affairs for any complaints and ask the company to provide a list of employees you can check with to make sure they pay on time and satisfied with their jobs.
